Hafiz Tom Yam

Ola mikes!

I know, its been awhile since i blogged. Work caught up with my last bit of my sanity and thus the procrastination in writing.

How have you all been? Good and sane i reckon? Great! Now, today's entree will be on "tom yam goong"......

I would love to describe about the revolution of tomyam in Malaysia but i guess ill never finish this entree today. So, here it is, a brief info about "Tom Yam" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_yum. Do read up if you feel like it.

There are number of famous tomyam joints around Kuala Lumpur. From the roadside tom yam stall till Starhill Gallery posh dining, you can find a decent serving of tom yam gung and plate of rice. Agreed?
The joint that i usually frequent and for my palate it is undeniably the best, "Hafiz Tom Yam", located at 5th Mile Jalan Ipoh.

Of course, i had to interrogate the existence of this joint and this is what i managed to gather.
1. Run by a family of six from Kelantan.
2. They speak Thai very well.
3. Muslims (Malaysians)
4. Entering into this joint, you will feel like entering into a Thai stall (warung) in Bangkok. Authentic enough?

This joint is located opposite the printing press in Jalan Ipoh, quite close by to the Jalan Ipoh Girls School.

Tomyam + Cold day + Guaranteed punch packed soup and accompaniement = Hafiz's it is!

Our usual yummy dishes that we order, Clockwise from top the soup, sotong masak petai, telur dadar & daging masak kunyit.

Tomyam Ayam, (serves Three). 9/10

You can choose between tomyam campur (mix of beef, chicken strips and seafood) just plain seafood or with just plain chicken strips. Either way, its great! My taste buds figuratively does samba. Spicy, tangy and fulfilling, divine it is.

Glorious sambal masak petai 8/10

Plump and juicy calamari aka sotong's cooked in petai and oniony red fiery stew. Decadent it was.

Omelette, seasoned well and just right fluffiness 8/10

I am not a great fan of omelette's but i say this is a winner.

Of course there was also daging kunyit which was crispy, salty and fatty goodness. It was good but wasn't particularly my favourite and negligently i failed to take a snap of that dish individually. 6/10

Our meal cost up too RM 24.00 for three of us (included three glasses of warm water and three plates of rice). For me, that is fairly reasonable and if below RM50.00 it feed three, that is a winner for me. Anyhow,
Phyāyām mī khwām s̄uk̄h mikes!!

If you guys know of affordable joints, do share it with me!

Chiou for now mikes!
